Smart Phone Apps and Education | Peer2Peer Tutors Blog

Most people might view technology as a hindering factor in a student?s education. It is usually matched with the words procrastination and distraction due to the entertaining and social apps, including Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Temple Run, and many more. However, these widgets have another side to them which can be helpful in the classroom. Here is a list of various apps for those students who have a smart phone or tablet handy.

1. Wikipanion (Free, available for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch): This app is designed to provide easy access to Wikipedia from your phone or tablet. We don?t recommend citing Wikipedia as a primary source for your research, but it?s a quick and easy way to get general information about almost anything.? *Similar one for Androids ? WikiDroid

2. The Official SAT Question of the Day (Free, available for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch): Need some SAT review? Download this app and see if you can answer the SAT question for the day! Tease your brain with real SAT questions and SAT preparation materials from the test maker.

3.? Math Formulas ? Reference Guide (99 cents, available for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch): No need to scrawl down mathematical formulas on little scraps of paper or flipping through your notebook to find the right one! This app remembers them all for you. Formulas are organized by various mathematical levels, such as geometry, calculus, algebra, etc. *Similar one for Androids ? Math Formulary

4. Notability ($1.99, available for iPad): Tired of the traditional way of taking notes? Try Notability! Not only does it integrate handwriting, it also has PDF annotation, typing, recording, and organizing so you can take notes in your own way! Personally, I think this is one of the best note-taking apps. *Similar one for Androids ? Evernote

5. StudyBlue (Free, available for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch): This app includes flashcards and notes for serious studiers. You can make your own using pictures, text, or audio, or find online flashcards and notes made by students just like you.
